About us

Welwyn Islamic Society (WIS) is a Registered Charity, No. 1155040, and was first established in 1977. At that time the volunteer workforce consisted of 4 people, today it consists of 30 people. In 1977 there were around 10 Muslim families in the Welwyn-Hatfield area. According to the 2010 Census for WGC/Hatfield, the total number of Muslims in the area is approximately 3000, and growing; mainly comprising of Pakistanis, Bengalis, Indians, Sri Lankans, Arabs, North Africans, Nigerians and Europeans.
